We live in the woods. And are happy there

We've got seasons - A glorious long summer and this year an amazingly long winter. Should have a good mud season this spring. The picture below is Longhouse Creek which runs across our property. This is where many of the critters hang out. We have deer, bear, coyote, fox, mink and the odd beaver passing through. There are ravens and hawks as well as songbirds in the canopy. It is a hardwood forest with a diverse group of trees ranging from black birch to beech with various hickories, maples and oaks. Though the land has been logged in the past, many of the current trees are well over a hundred years old.

this is a hummingbird moth - our favorite insect - one of the few moths that feeds when it is in adult form.
